Celebrating our grandmothers

Grandmothers also have their own day. Grandma's Day is held every year on the first Sunday in March. They deserve to be celebrated!

Grandma is a confidant and a benevolent voice to advise us. She is an excellent cook, always ready to make little dishes to take away. She is always ready to take care of the little ones and offer a break to tired parents. She spoils, entertains and, above all, gives lots of hugs and love.

This is your chance to show your love and thank her for her presence and help.

Here are 10 ways to celebrate Grandma this year!

1. Visit her

A visit will certainly be appreciated, especially after the long months of distance and virtual conversations. Some older people have suffered greatly from isolation in recent times.

Sometimes the most beautiful attention is to be present and to listen.

If your grandmother lives far away, you could send her a nice postcard with a picture of your family. A phone call is also welcome.

2. Give her a photo gift

His family is his greatest pride. Have a picture of your family printed on a mug, a puzzle or even a blanket! This will make her feel you are always near her and she will be happy to show you to her visitors.

Another idea would be to choose a beautiful photo of her or a portrait with Grandpa. You could have it printed on canvas or acrylic block.

A book full of photos could also be a wonderful idea.

3. A gift box to take care of her

Our grandmothers deserve to be taken care of too. There are some wonderful Quebec companies offering gift boxes filled with sweetness. You can find a small tea bag, a scented candle, warm socks and treats, for example.

It's a nice gesture to give him.

4. Offer him an original outing

A nice dinner out with the family is always fun. How about upping the ante a bit for grandma by taking her to the restaurant in a limo?

Imagine the surprise on her face when she sees her cart waiting for her for a nice ride.

SW Limousine offers a custom limousine transportation service.

Of course, you can take her somewhere else too, like to a play or to a place she likes. The point is to spoil her with a little more luxury!

5. Celebrating our grandmothers in a big way

Is there a better way to celebrate someone than with a big party?

Surprise Grandma with a great event just for her.

If you’re close to your extended family, you could even organize a big party bringing everyone together to honor all the grandmothers in your circle. You could rent a venue, hire a caterer, and plan a dance party with a DJ.

We shared our best tips for organizing a memorable event in our article“How to Effectively Plan an Event from A to Z.”

6. A photo shoot for grandma

Make grandma a star by offering her a photo shoot.

Even better, choose a photographer who captures moments in real life. He or she will blend into the background during a family meal or an outdoor outing to take your picture in real life. The results are magnificent! Your complicity, your smiles and love will be immortalized on these few shots.

7. A handmade gift just for her

There is something special about gifts that are handmade. It's a nice way to say that you think about the person and took the time to make something just for them.

The little ones will have fun creating beautiful crafts in honor of their grandmother.

Here are some ideas:

  • A DIY family tree
  • Beautiful handwritten words of love that we frame
  • Footprints and/or handprints of the little ones
  • A pot full of sweet words
  • Pretty paper flowers
  • Drawings made with foot or hand prints

Let your creativity flow!

8. Grandma's recipe book

If your grandmother's meals are the best in the world, this idea is for you!

Ask him for the recipes of his specialties and have them printed and bound into a personalized recipe book.

Put a picture of her on the cover and come up with a title like "Grandma's Recipes" or "The Best Meals in the World".

In a similar vein, you can create a beautiful book recording the history of your relationship with her. Describe a few memories, add photos and have it printed in book form. She'll be moved, that's for sure.

Keep a copy for yourself!

9. Write him a moving text

Words are powerful. Sometimes a simple, well-written letter can have as much effect as a big party or gifts.

Use this opportunity to list the things you love most about her. Show your appreciation. Tell her how her presence has impacted your life. Take the time to tell her what she taught you and how she influenced you. Describe some of the fond memories you have of her.

10. Accompany her to an activity

If your grandmother has a favorite hobby, ask her to join you for a day! She'll be happy to introduce you to her group of friends and will be proud to show you how to do the hobby.

This is an opportunity to strengthen your relationship by taking an interest in her. She has probably often accompanied you in yours!
