If you’re in charge of organizing a loved one’s birthday party, whether they’re an adult or a child, you’ll want to plan activities to keep guests entertained.
While the good old classics like karaoke’s or treasure hunts never get old, you might want to surprise everyone with something a little different this year!
Here are 10 unique activities to help make your party a success!
Original Activities for Grown-up Birthday Parties
During a birthday party, it may get tough to keep all guests entertained. The activities you organize will have a direct impact on whether people are stifling yawns or cheering other guests on. Here are a few ideas that will catch your guests off guard!
Blind Tests
This foolproof activity is easy to set up and requires very little preparation! Blind tests can feature multiple elements such as commercials, photos or songs!
Whatever the theme, the point is to figure out the name of the commercial, person or song as quickly as possible.
Your best bet is to go for elements that come from the birthday boy or girl’s childhood. This is a great and simple way to reminisce and have a good laugh!
The TV-Series Inspo
If you want to turn things up a notch, make your loved one’s favourite television series the theme of the party and the activities!
Let your imagination run wild: you can ask guests to dress up as one of the characters or create questionnaires based on the show. The sky is the limit!
Escape Games: A Birthday Activity Everyone Loves
With a bit of imagination, you can totally create one yourself! You’ll have to come up with a theme, enigmas and a storyline. While this may save you some money, it will certainly take up a lot of time and energy! Keep in mind that ready-made escape games can be purchased in stores.
For example, Défi Évasion offers storylines that are accessible online.
A Relaxing Activity
While we all like to party, there are times where all we want to do is rest! This is a great option if you’re celebrating the birthday of a new mom!
There are many options to help your guest of honour rest and relax!
- Create a Zen atmosphere with essential oils, soft music and relaxing herbal teas for your guests to enjoy.
- Have face masks on hand for all guests.
- Book an at-home manicure or pedicure or paint each other’s toes and nails.

- S’autopeluredebananiser: requires knowledge and speed
- Jokes de papa: it’s hilarious, but you can’t laugh.
The Cooking Workshop: An Original Birthday Activity
If your guest of honour is a foodie, a tasting or cooking workshop is a wonderfully surprising idea! Some businesses even offer at-home services!
The best part? You get to enjoy what you’ve whipped up once the activity is over!
Celebrating a Child’s Birthday at Home?
Hearing the words “I’m bored” during their child’s birthday party is a parent’s worst nightmare!
If you’re organizing a kids’ party, we have a few ideas to keep the little troopers busy … and out of trouble! If you’re extra brave and having a sleepover, you’ll find more ideas in our article “10 ideas to help you organize a memorable children’s party”.
Races
Races are the best way for children to have fun and burn off that sugar rush after having all of that Birthday cake!
Add obstacles and challenges to spice things up! Don’t forget to plan a winner’s prize!
Upside-down, Inside-out
This idea is sure to keep little guests entertained! Make it a theme to do everything backwards. Make them wear their clothes inside-out, walk backwards, etc.
You can even create an obstacle course that they’ll have to complete backwards using a small mirror. They’ll need to stay within a designated area. The fastest participant wins!
Blind Tests for Kids
If it’s a winner with adults, why not invent a kid-friendly version?
Have them taste and guess foods while blindfolded, or have them put their hand in a jar and guess what’s inside without looking!
Play parts of theme songs for their favourite television show or movies and have them guess which ones!
Organize Carnival-inspired Games
Carnival-inspired game stations can be easily created without your needing to spend a fortune!
For example, keep your old cans and place them so that they form a pyramid. Ask children to make them fall by throwing balls at them. At another station, you can organize a fishing game in a small water basin. Place magnetic items at the bottom and have your guests fish them out using a fishing rod or a stick with a piece of metal attached to it. You can even line a wall with balloons and throw darts at them, or align bottles and have children knock them over with small balls.
At every station, children will be able to collect coupons that they can then exchange for a toy of candy.
Participation is guaranteed!
